Antony has expressed that his recent call-up to the Brazil national team was more emotional than his initial inclusion. The winger, who had not played for Brazil since 2023, was selected by Carlo Ancelotti for the World Cup qualifiers following a successful loan spell at Real Betis from Manchester United. Antony stated, ‘It was one of the most emotional moments.’ He emphasized the significance of resilience and support from his family during challenging times.
Since joining Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 for £85 million ($114.6m), Antony has scored 12 goals in 96 matches. This season, he did not start any Premier League games before moving to Betis, where he scored nine goals in 26 appearances and helped the club reach its first European final.
Reflecting on his journey, Antony said, ‘I haven’t forgotten how to play soccer… Everything happens for a reason.’ His last match with Betis ended in a 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the Conference League final. Antony described his time at Betis as ‘one of the most beautiful chapters’ of his life.
Antony remains under contract with Manchester United until June 2027 and has scored two goals in 16 appearances for Brazil.
