Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that his team has not matched last season’s performance in the Premier League. After finishing just two points behind Manchester City last year, Arsenal now trails Liverpool by 15 points. The Gunners, who accumulated 84 points in the 2022-23 season and 89 in 2023-24, will conclude this campaign with a maximum of 76 points.
Arteta stated, “In the Premier League we’ve gone a step backwards.” Despite this, he noted that their recent point totals could have secured two league titles under different circumstances.
Arsenal also faced disappointment in the Champions League, exiting after a semi-final defeat to Paris St-Germain. Nevertheless, Arteta maintained his belief that Arsenal was the best team in the competition this season.
Looking ahead to their match against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, Arteta confirmed that Arsenal would honor Liverpool with a guard of honor. He praised Liverpool for being consistent and deserving champions.
