Arsenal Could Match Rare Premier League Record with Three Consecutive Second-Place Finishes — for the Second Time
Arsenal are on course to achieve a unique milestone in Premier League history. If Mikel Arteta’s side finishes the 2024/25 season in second place, it will mark their third consecutive runner-up finish, following second places in 2022/23 and 2023/24.
The North London club has previously finished second for three consecutive seasons — from 1998/99 to 2000/01. This means Arsenal could become the first team in Premier League history to secure second place three seasons in a row on two separate occasions.
This highlights the club’s consistent high-level performance under Arteta, despite falling short of the league title. In both instances — at the end of the 1990s and now — Arsenal faced dominant rivals: first Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, and now Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Historical Overview:
- Seasons finishing 2nd:
- 1998/99
- 1999/00
- 2000/01
- 2022/23
- 2023/24
- potentially 2024/25
No other club in Premier League history (since its inception in 1992) has finished as runner-up three seasons in a row on two different occasions.
