Arteta Outlines Arsenal’s Path to Improvement After Trophyless Season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed clarity on the necessary improvements for the team following a season without trophies. Arsenal’s journey in the Champions League ended in the semifinals with a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, they fell short to Liverpool, and their Carabao Cup run concluded at the semifinal stage against Newcastle United, who went on to win the competition.

Arteta stated, “We’re very clear about what we need to do to improve. First, what is in our hands to improve and what we can do with the squad we have, and then the improvements the team will need in terms of methodology, in terms of coaching staff, in terms of departments, in terms of players and, once again, to be better.”

While there are speculations about Arsenal seeking a new striker during the summer transfer window, Arteta refrained from discussing specific areas for enhancement within his squad. He mentioned that decisions would be made at the end of the season based on various factors involving players.

Arteta acknowledged that injuries significantly impacted Arsenal’s performance this season. Additionally, he noted that sporting director Edu’s resignation in November was a challenging moment for him personally due to their strong working relationship.

Reflecting on Edu’s departure, Arteta said he was not disappointed by Edu’s decision to pursue a new challenge. He expressed gratitude for Edu’s support and understanding throughout their time working together.
