Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down a significant offer from Saudi Pro-League club Al-Hilal, opting to remain with the English club. The 30-year-old midfielder considered the proposal, which would have substantially increased his salary, but ultimately decided to continue playing at the highest level. Fernandes discussed the offer with his family and informed Al-Hilal of his decision not to join them.
Speaking before Portugal’s Nations League semi-final against Germany, Fernandes revealed that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim encouraged him to stay. “Manchester United said they didn’t want to sell me,” he stated. “They said if I wanted to go I could, but they didn’t need the money.”
Al-Hilal was reportedly prepared to offer between £80m and £100m for Fernandes ahead of this month’s FIFA Club World Cup. Despite this, no formal bid was made as there were no direct negotiations between the clubs.
Since joining Manchester United from Sporting in January 2020 for £47m, Fernandes has made 290 appearances and scored 98 goals for the club.
