Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka Faces Extended Absence Due to Hamstring Injury

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will miss several weeks of action after suffering a hamstring injury during Saturday’s victory over Crystal Palace, confirmed manager Mikel Arteta.

Details of the Injury

Saka was forced off the pitch in the 24th minute during Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace. The 23-year-old left Selhurst Park on crutches, visibly distressed. Manager Mikel Arteta later revealed the extent of the injury during a press conference, confirming that Saka has torn a hamstring muscle.

“It’s not looking good. He’s going to be out for many weeks,” said Arteta. “It’s part of the development of a player at this level. Unfortunately, injuries happen, but it could have been much worse.”

Arteta expressed optimism about Saka’s return before the end of the season, adding, “We’ll use this time to help him recover and learn from this experience.”

Matches Saka Will Miss

Saka’s absence will significantly impact Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures. He will be unavailable for the following matches:

  • Premier League games against Ipswich Town, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa.
  • The FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester United on 12 January.
  • The EFL Cup semi-final clashes with Newcastle United (7 January and 6 February).
  • Champions League group stage matches, starting with Dinamo Zagreb on 22 January.

Saka’s Contribution This Season

Saka has been instrumental in Arsenal’s success, contributing to 15 of the team’s 34 Premier League goals this season. With five goals and ten assists, his performance places him second in the league for assists, just behind Mohamed Salah.

Potential Replacements

Arteta is evaluating various options to fill the void left by Saka’s injury. Gabriel Martinelli replaced Saka on the right wing during the match against Crystal Palace, with Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard covering other attacking positions. Other players, including Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz, are also being considered.

“We’ll try different things and ensure every player feels part of the solution,” Arteta said. “This is an opportunity to rediscover players in new roles and strengthen team dynamics.”

January Transfer Window Possibilities

With Saka and Raheem Sterling both sidelined, Arteta hinted at possible activity during the January transfer window. “The preparation is done, and we are ready if something happens. Our main focus remains on unlocking the potential within the squad.”

Fantasy Premier League managers must adjust their squads as Saka, owned by 38.6% of players, is out of action. With a price tag of £10.5m, FPL managers have the budget to explore alternative options ahead of the Gameweek 18 deadline on Thursday, 26 December.
