Chelsea has successfully secured the signing of Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap for £30 million ($40.5 million), surpassing Manchester United’s interest. The 22-year-old striker was also pursued by Newcastle United and Everton, but the opportunity to play alongside former Manchester City teammate Cole Palmer in the Champions League influenced his decision to join Chelsea. Despite long-standing interest from Manchester United, their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League after losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final played a role in Delap’s choice. Chelsea is now finalizing negotiations with Delap, who became available due to a clause in his contract following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League. Last season, Delap scored 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for Ipswich Town.
