Pep Guardiola has issued a warning to Manchester City, stating he will resign if the club does not reduce the size of its squad this summer. Guardiola expressed his dissatisfaction with leaving several players out of the matchday squad, as seen in City’s recent 3-1 victory over Bournemouth. Players like Abdukodir Khusanov, Savinho, James McAtee, Claudio Echeverri, and Rico Lewis were not included in the 20-man squad for that match. Despite City’s depth, Guardiola prefers a smaller squad for next season. He stated, “I said to the club I don’t want that [a bigger squad]. I don’t want to leave five or six players in the freezer. I don’t want that. I will quit. Make a shorter squad, I will stay.” The manager emphasized the difficulty of managing a large group and highlighted the importance of team cohesion. City spent over £200 million on new signings in January, including Khusanov and others. Kevin de Bruyne is confirmed to leave this summer, while Jack Grealish’s future remains uncertain.
