Manchester United and Argentina defender Lisandro Martínez has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
This marks the fifth injury for Martínez since joining the English club, with a total of 270 days missed due to various setbacks since the 2022/23 season.
Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim addressed the situation, saying, “Lisandro’s injury? I think it’s a serious situation. He is not only a great player but also a strong character in the dressing room. He felt terrible, and as a footballer, you know when it’s something serious. We are here to support him.”
Martínez joined Manchester United from Ajax in July 2022 in a transfer worth approximately €57 million. In his debut season, he played a key role in defense and helped the team secure the EFL Cup. Known for his versatility, the Argentine can operate as both a center-back and a defensive midfielder.
Manchester United, one of the most successful clubs in football history, has won 20 English league titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies.
