Manchester United is set to revamp its squad following a disappointing 2024/25 season, where they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final. With no European football next season, financial constraints are expected to impact their transfer budget. Despite this, manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly being backed by the club’s hierarchy to pursue new signings.
Among potential targets are Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Talks have been held with Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, though Newcastle United may also be interested in acquiring him. The quoted fee for Mbeumo is around £50 million.
In addition to attacking reinforcements, Manchester United is considering strengthening their goalkeeping options. Burnley’s James Trafford has emerged as a target, with his previous Championship season featuring an impressive 29 clean sheets. However, his performance metrics in the Premier League suggest he may not surpass current goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The club’s pursuit of new talent comes as Jadon Sancho’s future remains uncertain. Sancho, who joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million, is currently on loan at Chelsea but could return if his loan cancellation fee is triggered.
As Manchester United navigates these transfer opportunities, they face the challenge of balancing financial limitations with the need for strategic acquisitions.
