Manchester United’s Striker Dilemma: Hojlund’s Struggles and Transfer Targets

Manchester United faced another setback in their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, marking the 14th time this season they have failed to score in a league match. Rasmus Hojlund, last season’s top scorer for the club, has netted only four league goals this term. Despite limited opportunities, he has missed six significant chances in the current season compared to Ollie Watkins’ 26 misses while scoring 16 times.

Hojlund’s performance statistics show a decline from last season, with his goal frequency dropping from one every 217 minutes to one every 463 minutes. He has also failed to provide any assists this season.

Amid these struggles, Manchester United is actively seeking new striker options. The club is reportedly interested in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Additionally, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has emerged as a potential target, with journalist Ben Jacobs indicating that Manchester United is optimistic about securing his signature if they win the Europa League.

Delap, available for £30 million due to a relegation clause in his contract, scored eight goals for Hull City last season and has added 12 more this term for Ipswich Town. His playing style has drawn comparisons to former Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez.

The club aims to strengthen its attacking lineup as it prepares for the upcoming transfer window.
