Mason Mount is determined to overcome a challenging start at Manchester United by securing the Europa League title. The midfielder, who transferred from Chelsea in a £60 million deal in 2023, has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just 45 appearances for United. Despite these setbacks, Mount is set to play against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao after featuring in three of the last four matches under manager Ruben Amorim.
Mount’s time at Old Trafford has been marred by extended absences due to calf and hamstring injuries, but he remains optimistic about his return. “I’ve had many days at Carrington sitting on the treatment bed where I want to be training” Mount stated. He expressed his commitment to rehabilitation and his eagerness to contribute on the field.
During his tenure with Chelsea, Mount averaged nearly 50 games per season and played a pivotal role in their Champions League victory in 2021. His move to United came with high expectations, further amplified by wearing the iconic No.7 shirt, previously donned by club legends such as George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mount’s recent performances have shown promise, including scoring two crucial goals in the Europa League semifinal against Athletic Club. As United faces their worst Premier League finish since 1974, winning the Europa League could secure them a spot in next season’s Champions League and provide much-needed financial support for squad improvements.
“I feel we’re close” Mount commented on the team’s progress. He emphasized the importance of correcting small details and building confidence through winning trophies. With one game left this season, both Mount and Manchester United are focused on ending on a high note.
