Newcastle United have made a notable move in the transfer market by submitting a €25 million bid for Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera. The club is keen to strengthen its squad as it aims for a top-five finish in the Premier League, which could secure them a spot in next season’s Champions League. Currently, Newcastle sits fourth in the league, two points ahead of Nottingham Forest with three challenging fixtures remaining against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Everton.
The Magpies’ interest in Herrera comes amid competition from Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest, who are also eyeing the Venezuelan international. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes Herrera would be an excellent addition to their midfield lineup, which already features standout players like Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
Herrera has impressed this season with four goals and three assists in La Liga. His performance has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. Previously known for his tackling skills and high pass-success rate during his time at New York City FC, Herrera is seen as a well-rounded midfielder capable of making an impact at a higher level.
As Newcastle looks to bolster its squad for potential European competition next season, securing Herrera’s signature would be a significant step forward.
