Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s new manager, is preparing the team for a radical change in tactics and strategy mid-season, which will be one of the most significant innovations in the club’s history. His first game in the job is against Ipswich Town on Sunday at Portman Road Stadium.
Amorim takes over a team that has failed to achieve high results for several years. Finishing last season in eighth place, it was the team’s worst result in the Premier League era. The start of the 2024/25 season has been the weakest in the club’s history, with the team currently in 13th place after 11 games.
Amorim stated that he will work on implementing his idea of the game from day one, confidently aiming to bring the club back to its former heights.
The mentor spoke about his philosophy in soccer, which is based on the notion of team play, where each player knows exactly what to do at any given moment on the pitch. Amorim’s past experience shows his devotion to the 3-4-3 formation, but he is also known for his ability to adapt his tactical setups to the specific circumstances of the game.
Amorim’s first match as head coach will not only be a test for the new strategy, but also an opportunity for the players to adapt to a significant change. All eyes will be fixed on this encounter, expecting to see the beginning of a new era for Manchester United.
In the last five matches “Manchester United” has won two wins, two draws and one defeat, which indicates instability in the results.
After the meeting with Ipswich Town, the team will host Everton on December 1 and Arsenal on December 3 at Old Trafford.
Amorim are reportedly interested in strengthening the squad and are considering signing defender Ousmane Diomande from Sporting for £70m.
Amorim’s appointment has caused mixed feelings amongst fans. Some are hoping for fresh eyes and tactical changes, while others are concerned about the coach’s lack of experience in the Premier League.
Manchester United last won the Premier League in the 2012/13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson. Since then, the club have not risen above second place in the league.
The appointment of Ruben Amorim marks the start of a new chapter in Manchester United’s history. The success of his approach will depend on his ability to adapt his tactics to the demands of the Premier League and work effectively with the current squad.
