Salah Breaks Records and Leads Premier League Goal and Assist Charts

Mohamed Salah delivered an exceptional performance during Liverpool’s 6-3 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, propelling him to the top of both the Premier League goals and assists charts. The forward also shattered three significant records while inching closer to other legendary milestones.

Leading the Golden Boot Race

Salah netted his 14th and 15th goals of the Premier League season, surpassing Manchester City’s Erling Haaland by two goals. While Haaland has managed only three goals in his last 12 matches, Salah has maintained a striking form with 12 goals in as many games. If Salah clinches the Golden Boot this season, he will equal Thierry Henry’s record of four awards, joining an elite group that includes Alan Shearer and Harry Kane.

Moving Up Liverpool’s All-Time Scoring Chart

With 229 goals for Liverpool, Salah has overtaken Billy Liddell to secure fourth place on the club’s all-time goalscorers’ list. He now trails Gordon Hodgson (241 goals) and Ian Rush (346 goals). While surpassing Rush’s record may be unlikely, given Salah’s age and contract situation, his achievements have further solidified his status as a Liverpool legend.

Record-Breaking Feats

Salah set three new Premier League records:

  1. He is the first player to reach double figures in both goals and assists before Christmas.
  2. Salah became the first player in Premier League history to register 10+ goals and 10+ assists in four consecutive seasons.
  3. He now holds the record for the most Premier League seasons with 10+ goals and assists, overtaking Wayne Rooney.

Double Figures Before Christmas

In Sunday’s game, Salah also recorded his 11th assist of the season, surpassing Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. His career tally now stands at 80 Premier League assists, placing him 10th in the all-time chart alongside David Beckham. Salah’s consistent form has made him a strong contender to secure both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker awards, a feat he previously achieved in the 2021/22 season.

Nearing Thierry Henry’s Premier League Record

Salah’s 172 Premier League goals place him just three behind Thierry Henry’s total. If he continues his scoring pace, he could surpass Henry, as well as Frank Lampard, Sergio Aguero, and Andrew Cole, to rank as the fourth-highest scorer in Premier League history by season’s end.

Salah’s Reflections

On his historic achievements, Salah expressed pride, saying:

  • “I didn’t think about it before the game, but I’m glad I did it. [It’s] something that makes me happy. I’m proud and I’ll just keep working hard.”
  • On surpassing Liddell: “It’s such a big club, Liverpool. To achieve this is great, but the most important thing is we won the game.”

Salah’s remarkable consistency continues to redefine Premier League and Liverpool history, as he cements his place among football’s elite.

Upcoming Fixtures

The festive period presents a busy schedule for Liverpool:

  • December 26, 2024: Liverpool vs. Leicester City at Anfield.
  • December 29, 2024: West Ham United vs. Liverpool at London Stadium.
  • January 5, 2025: Liverpool vs. Manchester United at Anfield.

Analyst’s Insight

Liverpool’s attacking unit, spearheaded by Mohamed Salah, has been relentless, contributing to their league-high goal tally. The upcoming fixtures, particularly the match against Manchester United, will be crucial in maintaining their momentum. Squad rotation and maintaining player fitness during this congested period will be vital for sustaining their title challenge.
