Spurs’ Struggles Continue as Postecoglou Urges Team to Stay United

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou remains optimistic about turning the season around despite a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday. The result extended Spurs’ poor run, with just one win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Recent Performance

Tottenham’s only victory during this period came against Manchester City. The team managed draws against Roma and Fulham but suffered losses to Galatasaray, Ipswich Town, AFC Bournemouth, and now Chelsea. Spurs are currently 11th in the league table, sitting seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Postecoglou remains confident in his squad. “I still sense within this squad there’s a real conviction in what we’re doing. If we maintain that, then we’ll turn our season around,” he said. “Hopefully, at some point, we hit smoother waters, just in terms of some of the things that are happening at the moment. Some of it is self-inflicted, but hopefully, we can get more consistency.”

Reactions from Key Figures

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood pointed out the team’s inconsistency as a major hurdle. “A lot of people want to be entertained, and Ange delivers that,” Sherwood said. “Unfortunately, the highs are so high, and the lows are too low. It’s a tough moment, but it’s not the end of the world.”

Team captain Son Heung-min also expressed disappointment, taking personal responsibility for missed opportunities during the game. “It’s very disappointing. I take the blame,” said Son. “On such a big stage, you need to score in these moments, and I feel like I let the team down. We’ve got to stick together in difficult moments.”

Injury Concerns

Defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven returned to the starting lineup after injuries but failed to complete the match. Romero left the pitch after just 15 minutes due to a leg problem, while Van de Ven was substituted in the 79th minute.

Upcoming Fixtures

Looking ahead, Tottenham faces a challenging fixture list. They will visit bottom-placed Southampton on Sunday, followed by a home match against league leaders Liverpool on December 22. Additionally, a Carabao Cup clash against Manchester United is scheduled for December 19.

The team’s current form and mounting injury list present significant challenges. However, Postecoglou’s unwavering belief in his squad’s potential suggests that, with unity and resilience, Spurs can navigate this turbulent period and strive for a turnaround in their season.
