Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has issued an apology to Paris Saint-Germain officials following comments he made during their Champions League encounter.
The incident occurred at halftime of the first leg between PSG and Liverpool, when PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos was passionately appealing to match officials over a challenge by Ibrahima Konaté, which Campos believed warranted a red card. Van Dijk responded to Campos, stating, “Bro, this is not Ligue 1.”
Following the second leg of the matchup, Van Dijk personally apologized to Luis Campos and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for his earlier remark. The defender also praised PSG, describing them as “the strongest team I’ve played against in the last three years.”
The exchange highlights the intense emotions surrounding major Champions League fixtures and demonstrates mutual respect between opponents at the highest level.
