Ollie Watkins has become Aston Villa’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League, surpassing Gabby Agbonlahor’s previous record. Watkins scored his 75th league goal for Villa in a match against Bournemouth, marking his 16th goal of the season. This achievement highlights his consistent performance since joining from Brentford in 2020. Despite facing competition for a starting position earlier this season, Watkins has reclaimed his role as a key player for the team. Manager Unai Emery praised Watkins’ dedication and work ethic, stating, ‘He deserves it completely because he is a hard worker.’ With this victory, Aston Villa secured at least a seventh-place finish in the league, ensuring qualification for next season’s UEFA Conference League and maintaining their chances for a Champions League spot.
