Al Ahly continues to lead the African Club rankings after the conclusion of the 2024/25 CAF interclub season. Mamelodi Sundowns have moved up from fourth to second place, becoming the only Premier Soccer League team in the top ten, which is largely dominated by Egyptian clubs. Despite not reaching this year’s final, Al Ahly maintains its top position, followed by Sundowns. ES Tunis has dropped to third place, while Wydad AC has fallen to eighth after a year without CAF competition. RS Berkane and Simba SC round out the top five following their successful performances in the CAF Confederations Cup. Newly crowned CAF Champions League winners Pyramids have climbed from 15th to sixth place after securing their first title. The rest of the top ten includes Zamalek, Wydad, and Algerian teams USM Alger and CR Belouizdad.
The CAF ranking system uses points accumulated over a five-year period from 2019/20 to 2024/25. Points for the latest season are multiplied by five, decreasing by one for each preceding season. For instance, Pyramids earned six points as Champions League winners in 2024/25, multiplied by five for a total of 30 points. Sundowns gained five points as runners-up, resulting in 25 points when multiplied by five.
Sundowns’ overall score is calculated as follows: three points from 2020/21 (multiplied by one), six from 2021/22 (multiplied by two), twelve from 2022/23 (multiplied by three), sixteen from 2023/24 (multiplied by four), and twenty-five from 2024/25 (multiplied by five), totaling 62 points.
