Bafana Bafana and Tanzania Settle for Goalless Draw

Bafana Bafana and Tanzania ended their international friendly with a 0-0 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday evening. The match saw three new players, Deano Van Rooyen, Khulumani Ndamani, and Simphiwe Selepe, debuting in the starting lineup for South Africa. Renaldo Leaner and Mohau Nkota also made their first appearances coming off the bench.

Early in the match, Oswin Appollis had a chance to score for Bafana but his attempt was cleared from the goal line within the first five minutes. Just before halftime, Appollis had another opportunity but his shot lacked power.

Patrick Maswanganyi and Polokwane City winger combined well on the left flank in an attempt to score early, but Maswanganyi missed connecting with the ball in the seventh minute. Ashley Cupido tried to break the deadlock from long range in the 11th minute but narrowly missed.

In another attempt, Cupido found Thalente Mbatha in the 30th minute, but Mbatha’s shot went over the bar. Tanzania had two chances through Feisal Salum and Pascal Gaudence; one was off target while Ricardo Goss easily saved the other.

In the second half, South Africa won a set-piece that Appollis took but failed to convert. Moremi’s shot was deflected for a corner after 12 minutes into the half, which Bafana did not capitalize on.

Bafana Bafana will face Mozambique next Tuesday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
