Kaizer Chiefs, recent winners of the Nedbank Cup, face the possibility of losing their long-term target Fiston Mayele to rivals Orlando Pirates. The Chiefs have been interested in Mayele since Nasreddine Nabi’s arrival last offseason. However, the Pirates are reportedly considering a move for the striker.
An insider indicated that there has been contact between Mayele and the Pirates, although nothing is confirmed yet. “There has been contact [between Pirates and Mayele], and although nothing is concrete at this stage, there is a possibility,” said the source.
The Pirates’ interest in Mayele intensified after he scored twice against them during their Champions League semi-final exit. “It’s no secret that Pirates are in the market for a reliable goal-scorer, and after what Mayele did to them on the continental stage, it’s clear he could be that guy,” added another source.
In related news, reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs might also be looking to bring Bafana defender Sphephelo Sithole back to South Africa. Sithole is currently on loan at Tondela with his contract expiring in June 2026. Negotiations with his parent club Gil Vicente would be necessary unless they agree to terminate his current contract.
