Durban City secured a 1-0 victory over Cape Town Spurs on the final day of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, creating a five-point lead at the top. However, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has delayed the trophy presentation due to an ongoing disciplinary case. The match was contested under protest after Cape Town Spurs claimed that Durban City’s player Saziso Magawana was improperly registered. A decision regarding this matter is expected on Tuesday, May 20.
Durban City’s head coach, Simo Dladla, expressed his concerns about not receiving the championship trophy despite their performance. He acknowledged the support from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in helping players manage mental challenges throughout the season. Dladla highlighted the importance of professional intervention, especially after losing player Sinamandla Zondi earlier in the season.
The PSL confirmed that no trophy would be awarded until the disciplinary committee reaches a conclusion, which could potentially alter current standings.
