Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing options to enhance their right-back position, with Mhleli Mabuza being a key consideration. The Soweto-based team recently evaluated the 24-year-old defender during training sessions at Naturena but has not yet made a contract offer. Mabuza, who has spent a significant part of his career in Portugal, joined the Chiefs for training earlier this month as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 season. Despite showcasing his skills, no final decision regarding his future with the club has been reached.
A source confirmed, “He trained with the team, yes, but there hasn’t been a firm commitment made. The club is still exploring its options.”
Following an unsatisfactory season where they finished outside the Top 8 in the Betway Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs are determined to strengthen several key positions, including right-back. Current players Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons have faced challenges with inconsistency and injuries.
Although Mabuza’s trial at Naturena did not lead to an immediate contract, insiders indicate that the opportunity remains open. The club may reconsider once newly appointed coach Nasreddine Nabi completes his evaluations and finalizes plans for the squad.
“The club is not ruling him out entirely. And may revisit the situation once the coach has decided what he wants,” added a source.
Kaizer Chiefs are expected to make strategic changes to their squad in the upcoming transfer window, prioritizing the right-back position as they aim to improve their performance next season.
