Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has highlighted the significant contribution of Makhehleni Makhaula to Orlando Pirates this season. Despite Lucas Ribeiro being a strong contender for the Player of the Season, Kekana emphasizes that Makhaula’s role should not be overlooked. At 35, Makhaula has made 31 appearances in domestic competitions for Pirates, scoring one league goal. His efforts were crucial as the team secured one trophy and reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League. Young talents like Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota have shone this season, but according to Kekana, their performances were supported by Makhaula’s stability in midfield. “This is my Player for the Season [Makhehleni Makhaula],” said Kekana on SABC Sport’s Soccer Zone, highlighting his indispensable role in providing stability and doing essential work for the team.
