Mamelodi Sundowns, following their defeat in the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids, are poised for significant changes. Despite substantial investments in their squad, the team has yet to secure another Champions League title. With the FIFA Club World Cup approaching in the USA, club chairman Thlopie Motsepe announced no new signings would be made, though departures are anticipated.
Agent Mike Makaab confirmed that players Sipho Mbule and Rivaldo Coetzee have become free agents after Sundowns chose not to extend their contracts. “What I can tell you is that there were a number of players that we represent who Sundowns options on, and the majority of those have been exercised. However, the players who have not been exercised are Rivaldo Coetzee and Sipho Mbule. As of the first of June both players are free to join a club of their choice” Makaab stated.
Mbule had a loan spell at Sekhukhune United but was released early due to disciplinary issues, while Coetzee continued to struggle with injuries. These developments suggest a strategic shift for Sundowns as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
