Mamelodi Sundowns have achieved unprecedented success in South African football by winning their eighth consecutive league title. This marks a significant milestone as no other club has accomplished such a feat in the nation’s top-flight history. Under the guidance of Miguel Cardoso, who follows previous successful coaches Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi, and Rulani Mokwena, the team continues to build on its impressive legacy.
The club secured their 15th PSL-era league title, extending their lead to 18 overall league titles, including three NSL titles. This achievement places them six titles ahead of their closest rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns set a new record for the most league wins in a single season with 24 victories out of 28 games. This surpasses their previous record of 22 wins in a 30-game season set during the 2015/16 campaign.
In terms of scoring, Sundowns netted 65 goals in just 28 matches, breaking the previous record for goals scored in a 30-game season. They also became the first team in PSL history to score over 100 goals across all competitions.
Additionally, Sundowns made history by becoming the first PSL team to win all their home games within a single season, scoring an impressive total of 43 goals and conceding only four.
