Orlando Pirates interim coach Mandla Ncikazi remains optimistic about the club’s future following a season that concluded with a 1-1 draw against Magesi, securing a record 61 points in their Premier Soccer League history. Despite setbacks, including losses in the CAF Champions League semi-final to Pyramids and the Nedbank Cup final to Kaizer Chiefs, Ncikazi sees potential for growth.
Reflecting on the season, Ncikazi told SuperSport TV, “It would have been good to finish at home with a win, but I still think there’s positives going into the next season.” He highlighted the team’s competitive performance in Africa and the introduction of young talent as significant achievements. “Selepe was a ball boy three months ago, now in the national team” he noted.
As Orlando Pirates prepare for the upcoming off-season, Ncikazi emphasized the importance of restructuring their technical team and attracting new talent. “Pirates will improve,” he stated confidently. “We will have to take stock, compile reports… After that I’m sure solutions will come and then we will be a better team next season.”
