Orlando Pirates have joined the competition to sign Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, adding to the list of clubs interested in acquiring him before the new season. Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu FC, and Sekhukhune United are also pursuing the Mamelodi Sundowns forward.
Ighodaro made a significant impact during his loan at AmaZulu FC last season, playing in nearly every PSL match and showcasing his goal-scoring abilities. “There are local teams apart from Kaizer Chiefs who are also interested in him. I can tell you that AmaZulu FC have already contacted Sundowns and the player’s representatives as they want to keep him (after the loan). And there is Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United. It’s believed that they have both been in touch concerning Ighodaro. It’s a matter of who comes up with the best offer,” a source confirmed.
The Pirates face not only domestic competition but also interest from international clubs such as Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and Russia’s FC Baltika. “The thing is that there is interest in Russia and Morocco and it is becoming difficult to keep him locally. But it’s believed that Sekhukhune United are preparing to sign him as a replacement for Andy Boyeli, who is wanted by Pyramids FC in Egypt,” added the source.
As the transfer window intensifies, Orlando Pirates must act quickly if they wish to secure Ighodaro ahead of their rivals.
