Orlando Pirates are on the brink of discovering their Premier Soccer League fate as Mamelodi Sundowns, needing just one point to secure the title, prepare to face Chippa United at Buffalo City Municipality Stadium. The recent period has been challenging for the Soweto club, marked by the departure of Jose Riveiro following setbacks in both the Champions League and Nedbank Cup.
Relebohile Mofokeng, a rising star under Riveiro’s guidance, is attracting interest from major clubs such as Zamalek FC and Al Ahly. Zamalek’s previous bid of R25.8 million was turned down in January, but Al Ahly’s recent acquisition of Riveiro could influence Mofokeng’s potential move to Cairo.
Monnapule Saleng’s career trajectory has been uncertain since his exclusion from the team in December, raising questions about his future with Orlando Pirates. A move abroad might be on the horizon for him.
The club has yet to announce a replacement for Riveiro but is reportedly considering candidates like Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane. Riveiro concluded his tenure with Orlando Pirates after 301 matches, expressing gratitude towards the club and stating that he would not coach another team in South Africa.
