Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has highlighted goalkeeper Sipho Chaine as the club’s standout player this season. Chaine has been pivotal for the team, securing 10 clean sheets in 24 league matches, contributing to their likely second-place finish. His performances were crucial in helping the Pirates win the MTN8 and reach both the CAF Champions League semi-finals and Nedbank Cup final.
Lekgwathi praised Chaine’s exceptional season, noting his call-up to the national team, Bafana Bafana, as evidence of his impressive form. Alongside Chaine, young defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Deon Hotto, and Relebohile Mofokeng were also commended for their contributions.
“For me Sipho Chaine,” Lekgwathi stated. “He had his best season and even got called up to Bafana Bafana. It shows you that you are doing great when you get a call-up.” He also mentioned Hotto’s excellent performance at left-back and Mofokeng’s standout role in midfield.
