A segment of Mamelodi Sundowns fans expressed disappointment over Themba Zwane’s absence in the team’s recent 1-1 draw against Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League final. The match saw Lucas Ribeiro score for Sundowns, with Walid El Karti equalizing in stoppage time.
Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso addressed the decision not to include Zwane, stating, “We manage Themba Zwane like all the other players. Everybody wanted to be part of this match for sure.” He emphasized that the choices made were intended to maintain team balance.
Cardoso further noted the unpredictable nature of football: “One second or 10 seconds in the last minute of the game changed the way you all think about us and the decisions that we made.”
Looking ahead, Sundowns will face Pyramids FC again in Cairo on Sunday at 19:00. To claim their second African championship title since 2016, Sundowns must secure a victory without conceding any goals.
