Kaizer Chiefs secured the Nedbank Cup earlier this month by defeating Orlando Pirates, marking a high point in an otherwise challenging season. Despite their struggles, the team managed to finish strong with a crucial win in their final match to enter the top eight.
Under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi, Kaizer Chiefs faced difficulties in maintaining consistent victories. The team’s top scorer managed to net only five goals throughout the season.
Several players stood out for Kaizer Chiefs during this period:
- Rushwin Dortley: The 23-year-old defender was pivotal before his injury, forming a strong partnership with Miguel Inacio.
- Wandile Duba: At just 20 years old, Duba emerged as the team’s leading scorer and played a key role in their cup victory.
- Makabi Lilepo: Joining in January, Lilepo made an immediate impact by scoring five goals in the latter half of the season.
- Thabo Cele: A recent addition to the team, Cele brought experience and vigor to the midfield.
- Mduduzi Shabalala: Although benched mid-season, Shabalala proved influential coming off the bench towards the end of the campaign.
- Sibongiseni Mthethwa: Recalled in the second half of the season, Mthethwa consistently delivered strong performances as a defensive midfielder.
