Orlando Pirates, a club renowned for its talented wingers, has seen many players excel on the field since the start of the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Notable among these are Helman Mkhalele, Steve Lekoelea, Daine Klate, Dikgang Mabalane, and Relebohile Mofokeng.
Helman Mkhalele, currently serving as an assistant coach for Bafana Bafana, played nearly 200 matches for the Buccaneers from 1993 to 1997. During his tenure, he helped secure several titles including the CAF Champions League. Known as ‘Midnight Express’ Mkhalele was celebrated for his performances on the wing.
Steve Lekoelea joined Orlando Pirates in 1995 after debuting at age 16 with Moroka Swallows. He quickly became a fan favorite and won two league titles with the team. Despite his talent, off-field issues affected his career longevity.
Daine Klate brought significant success to Pirates upon joining in 2010. After achieving three league titles with SuperSport United, Klate’s arrival marked a turning point for Pirates as they secured six trophies in his first two seasons.
Dikgang Mabalane, known as ‘Terminator,’ joined Orlando Pirates in 2008 after a successful stint with Jomo Cosmos. His consistent performance elevated him to one of the most skilled wingers in the league.
Relebohile Mofokeng is a rising star at just 20 years old. Having completed two full seasons with impressive performances, he is considered one of the top players in the PSL today.
