Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the possibility of stepping down as Manchester United manager if the team’s poor performance continues into the next season. United’s recent defeat at Old Trafford, a 2-0 loss to West Ham, marked another low point for the club. This was West Ham’s first league victory at Old Trafford since the 2006-07 season.
Amorim expressed concerns about the club’s current state, stating, “We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home.” He emphasized the importance of addressing deeper issues within the team and club culture.
United has only managed victories against relegated teams Ipswich and Leicester since January 26th and is currently on a seven-game winless streak in the Premier League. The team sits 16th in the table with 39 points, their worst tally since their relegation campaign in 1930-31.
Despite reaching the Europa League final against Tottenham on May 21st, Amorim believes that winning or losing this match is not their main concern. He stressed that significant changes are needed within the club to avoid repeating this season’s performance.
Manchester United has suffered 17 Premier League defeats this season, their highest since being relegated in 1973-74. The team has also experienced nine home losses, equaling their record for most home defeats in a single league campaign.
