Argentine midfielder Emiliano Buendía has joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season, with an option to buy. The 28-year-old will wear the number 16 jersey for the Bundesliga club.
Buendía moved to Aston Villa in 2021 from Norwich City for €38.4 million. His contract with the Premier League side runs until the summer of 2026. So far this season, he has played 20 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals.
According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at €18 million.
Buendía began his professional career at Getafe before making a name for himself at Norwich City, where he played a crucial role in helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League. In the 2019-20 season, he was named the best player in the Championship.
His new club, Bayer Leverkusen, is having one of the best seasons in its history. The team, led by manager Xabi Alonso, is in contention for the Bundesliga title and aims to make an impact in European competitions. Known for its attacking football and youth development, Leverkusen has produced world-class talents such as Michael Ballack, Kai Havertz, and Toni Kroos.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa, under Unai Emery, has emerged as a strong contender in the Premier League, competing for European qualification spots. The club has a rich history, including a UEFA Champions League triumph in 1982, and is now focused on rebuilding its squad for long-term success.
