David Beckham and Gary Neville have completed the acquisition of Salford City, a League Two team, as part of a new consortium. This move is aimed at elevating the club’s status by injecting substantial funds. Previously, Beckham and Neville were co-owners alongside former Manchester United teammates Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, and Paul Scholes, who have now sold their shares.
Following the departure of majority shareholder Peter Lim in 2024, Beckham and Neville sought investment partners to enhance Salford City’s prospects. They have now partnered with Declan Kelly, founder of US advisory firm Consello, and Lord Mervyn Davies, chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association. Both will serve as co-chairs on Salford’s board.
The duo hopes to replicate the success seen by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney with Wrexham, which achieved three consecutive promotions since their purchase in 2021.
