Liverpool has initiated contact with Bayer Leverkusen regarding a potential transfer of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The German playmaker, who has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, is a key target for Liverpool as they plan for the upcoming season. The club has already expressed interest in signing Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and mentioned their desire to acquire the 22-year-old Wirtz during those discussions. While formal negotiations have yet to begin, Bayer Leverkusen values Wirtz at over £120 million. It remains uncertain if Liverpool will meet this valuation, which surpasses the British transfer record of £107 million set by Chelsea for Enzo Fernandez in 2023. Reports indicate that Wirtz is interested in joining Liverpool, preferring them over Bayern Munich. Earlier reports revealed that Manchester City is no longer pursuing Wirtz, leaving Liverpool and Bayern as the primary contenders.
