Manchester City and Southampton played to a goalless draw in their Premier League match on Saturday. Despite dominating the game with 26 shots, Manchester City was unable to break through Southampton’s defense, which managed only two shots throughout the match. The result moved Southampton to 12 points, avoiding equaling Derby County’s record low of 11 points in a season from 2007-08.
Rúben Dias expressed frustration over Southampton’s defensive tactics, stating, “It’s frustrating. Every point matters right now until the end, and it’s frustrating to play a team like them. They don’t even try to play. They just wasted time the whole game.” However, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola disagreed with Dias’ assessment, emphasizing that it is up to his team to overcome such defensive strategies. “They can do whatever they want,” Guardiola said. “We had chances to break them but unfortunately we could not score.”
