Real Madrid has completed the signing of Spain defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, marking their first acquisition of the offseason. The 20-year-old defender has agreed to a five-year contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2030. Real Madrid activated Huijsen’s release clause of 50 million pounds ($66.4 million) to secure his transfer.
Huijsen, originally from the Netherlands, joined Bournemouth from Juventus for a reported fee of 12.5 million pounds last year and quickly became a regular starter for the team since November. His performances contributed significantly to Bournemouth’s record-breaking Premier League campaign.
In March, Huijsen was called up by Spain for the Nations League playoffs, where he made appearances against the Netherlands. His impressive form had attracted interest from top Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Arsenal.
Real Madrid aims to strengthen their defense following a challenging 2024-25 season plagued by injuries. Huijsen will remain with Bournemouth for their final two matches before moving to Madrid.
