Ex-Arsenal Teammates Wilshere and Ramsey Set for Managerial Clash

Norwich City has appointed Jack Wilshere as interim head coach following the departure of Johannes Thorup. The former England and Arsenal midfielder will lead the team through the final two matches of the 2024/25 Championship season.

In a unique twist, Norwich’s final fixture will see Wilshere go head-to-head with Aaron Ramsey — another former Arsenal teammate — who recently took over as player-manager at Cardiff City. It will be the first time the two face each other in professional dugouts after sharing the midfield at the Emirates for several years.

This marks Wilshere’s first appointment as head coach at senior level. Since retiring in 2022, he has coached Arsenal’s U18 side, developing young talent and building his credentials within the game.

Johannes Thorup, who was brought in ahead of the season, leaves his post after the club failed to secure a playoff position.

  • Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey played together at Arsenal between 2008 and 2018, forming part of a new generation under Arsène Wenger.
  • Wilshere has 34 England caps and is known for his performances in the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
  • Ramsey, who also had a long stint at Juventus and returned to Cardiff in 2023, took on his first managerial role just weeks before this match.

The final round of the Championship season will feature a symbolic clash between two former Arsenal stars — now leading rival clubs from the touchline. All eyes will be on the sidelines as Wilshere and Ramsey meet again, this time as managers rather than midfield partners.
